Creative organisation

Now I have my brand new sewing space I'm feeling more inspired to keep my supplies more organised (for now at least) so I spent my morning tidying up my tins of cotton reels, It's not a perfect storage solution by any means, but at least now I might be able to find things more easily :)
(I felt compelled to photograph this occasion because, lets be honest it will never be this neat again!)

Still loving sewing!

I have to confess, I was slightly worried that spending the whole week sewing at my work experience would dampen my enthusiasm for recreational sewing but thankfully not. When Saturday morning swung round I was eager as can be to get back in my new sewing room and start on a project I've had in mind for a long while. :)

This is the same gorgeous tweed fabric I used for this handbag I knew it would make a lovely Autumn skirt. I used the same shape as this skirt, which seems to suit my body shape really well and is insanely simple! I used the skirt sections from this New Look pattern and the only measurement you need is around your waist. Cut the waistband to this measurement and sew to the skirt, adjusting the pleats to fit the waistband! Easy peasy, couldn't be simpler. The skirt is just above knee length and so thick and warm it will be great with tights and boots in the Autumn and Winter, the only downside is the tweed is quite itchy if you're not wearing tights. I considered lining it but I tend to prefer to wear a seperate petticoat so it's fine :) Roll on Autumn!

New studio space!

Ever since I moved back home I've been using the living room as a makeshift studio, which is far from ideal so my parents have kindly allowed me to have the spare room as a proper studio whilst I am living here! This is incredibly exciting as I've never had a completely separate sewing/creating space before, such luxury! The only downside being I have to share the room with a tarantula named Bruce, but as long as she stays safely in her tank I can deal with that!

Crazy excited!

Today has been spent photographing items to go into my Etsy shop! :D I'm so excited about this. Unfortunately I couldn't get all the photos taken I needed to because the silly British weather decided to cloud over leaving me with no light to photograph by! Boo. Never mind, I shall persevere and hope to have my shop up and running this coming weekend!! :)

Blog neglect!

So...I may be neglecting the blog a bit for a while. I'm super excited to currently be doing work experience at Sassi Holford who make the most gorgeous wedding dresses. It's pretty much a dream come true for me to be working everyday with such gorgeous fabrics *sigh* I'm so lucky to have this opportunity so I'm keen to learn as much as possible. Obviously I'll try not to neglect Midnight Rose too much and I'm still planning for the opening of my Etsy shop in the very forseeable future :) It's all very exciting! Watch this space...! :)

(All photos taken from sassiholford.com and are therefore not mine!)

The best bits

I was looking back over my photographs when I backed them up the other day and came across a lot of my old uni work from the first and second year. I thought I'd share the best bits here or they will just sit forever on my hard drive in obscurity.

I love the variation of work in these images which I think is a testament to how diverse BA Contemporary Textile Practice was as a course.
